I remember practicing the piano for hours every day as a child, always looking forward to when I could just "play for fun." That was when music really came to life for me through arranging my classical music with new "chords" and improvising the songs I would hear on the radio. Yes, there were the odd theory lessons on jazz chords, but if I had only know the secret to all music is being able to recognize chords, how to arranged chords to improvise with total freedom, I think I would have no only appreciated my hours of dedicated practice but also how play with more freedom.
